This article is based on changes made in 2013 and is unlikely to be of relevance to current customers. We’ve retained it for customers who’ve been with us for the last 10 years and may have other expectations.
Reset Utility Availability
OctoInkjet now, provide a “Reset key” as standard* for use with the WICReset and iWIC tools. This allows customers to avoid most, if not all of the issues surrounding many of the “free” utilities and get their printer waste counter reset quickly/easily.
*Kit + Key bundles are now offered as the only “with reset” option. Kit only listings are provided for customers who are resolving the waste ink counter independently.
Access Changes
OctoInkjet are no longer providing access to, nor directly supporting (see below) whatever “free” utility might be available for printer models. This was due to the increased support requirement, particularly with relation to anti-virus, malware and operating system incompatibilities.
Access to “free” utilities is still available to customers who purchased their kits prior to these changes. We are also extending this, on an unsupported basis (see below), to kit + key customers.
Quickfind Access
Customers who purchased kits prior to October 10th 2013 are, at time of writing, able to access their “free” downloads as before. However, we cannot guarantee this will remain the case indefinitely.
Support Changes
WICReset / iWIC Utility
We are actively developing and improving our documentation on these utilities, as well as working with the primary provider and developers to further improve on the design.
Support for these utilities is available through all our channels (web, email. phone, livechat, etc…)
“Free” utilities
While these utilities are “free” to the end user we’ve noted that increasingly, the needs of users has changed drastically. Instead of needing help using the utility problems have switched to issues relating to access:
- being able to circumnavigate anti-virus tools
- deal with operating system incompatibility
- even basic computer use.
While we have been happy to support these in the past, it simply isn’t viable to spend 30 minutes talking single customers through their own personal maze just so they can use a “free” utility.
However, we are continuing to provide online support for these utilities via the articles in our Knowledge Base (KB) and will add to this as/when new information becomes available. Critically we have stopped providing support for these utilities via all other support channels (email, livechat, phone, etc..)
