Summary:

This ink is for use with Gloss media where adhesion issues have been idenfiied (See list below) and where scratch resistance is an absolute requirement.
The ink matches the original PGI-9BK 100% and produces an excellent depth of black.

Detail:

During development of this and other Canon pigment ink sets we found that a small but significant subset of Gloss papers proved difficult for Photo Black inks to adhere (stick/bond) to properly.

The ink provided as a standard Photo Black replacement does provide a significant improvement on previous options but scratching and medium/heavy pressure rubbing can remove the ink from some paper surfaces. Specifically:

• Canon Pro-Platinum
• Canon Plus Glossy II

This product provides a solution to this problem and while it is considerably more expensive than the other inks it does completely remove any issues with adhesion for all papers/media. This ink also provides a 100% match to the original ink much with a small but noticeable difference in terms of the depth of black.

We would not recommend this ink for users who have a limited budget or those who do not use the media listed above.

While this ink is an expensive solution, it is still cheaper than using OEM PGI-9BK cartridges and produces identical results and media compatibility as the original ink.

Tip: If you have limited Gloss media usage and only occassionally require guaranteed adhesion, we would recommend purchasing and using original PGI-9BK cartridges as/when necessary rather than purchasing this ink.
